  • Originally known as Impulse thread, later changed to Ion thread due to marker popularity. In most cases, this thread is referred to as Ion
  • Same thread, originally developed for Kingman Spyder line of markers, later named Piranha Thread for marketing purposes when PMI introduced the competing Piranha line of markers
  • Most common industry barrel thread for mid-range to high-end paintball guns. Also known as AC barrel thread or Cocker barrel thread, originally used on WGP Autocockers. Some manufacturers re-named the thread for marketing purposes, so it may also be referred to as Mini barrel thread, Timmy barrel thread, or TM-15 barrel thread.

The Ion (Smart Parts) barrel thread was originally known as the Impulse thread. However, due to the popularity of the Ion marker, the name was later changed to Ion thread. As Smart Parts began using this thread for all their markers, it eventually became known as the Smart Parts Standard barrel thread, which is often referred to as Ion.

Similarly, Spyder thread barrels were originally developed for the Kingman Spyder line of markers. When the competing Piranha line of markers was introduced by PMI, they used the same thread but named it Piranha Thread for marketing purposes. Therefore, Spyder and Piranha threads are essentially the same thing.

The Autococker barrel thread, also known as AC barrel thread or Cocker barrel thread, was initially used on WGP Autocockers, which were the most popular high-end paintball markers for many years. As more high-end markers emerged in the market, they often adopted Autococker threads to attract former Autococker users. Consequently, the Autococker barrel thread is the most commonly used industry barrel thread for mid-range to high-end paintball guns. Many manufacturers renamed the thread for marketing purposes, so you may encounter AC thread referred to as Mini barrel thread, Timmy barrel thread, or TM-15 barrel thread.
